Millions of survivors of sexual and physical assault live in California and the U.S. Our job is to protect their rights and get them justice as they rebuild their lives.
Since opening our doors in 2013, we have handled many cases involving sexual trauma, so we know firsthand the painful challenges that people face after enduring these injustices. We want to support a promising scholar who is passionate about advocating for survivors of sexual abuse.

Scholarship Essay Topic
Many sexual abuse victims endure injury and pain and suffering well beyond the physical effects of the abuse. Even though some will never speak about what they survived, they live with profound emotional wounds that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Sexual abuse survivor advocates can help prevent sexual abuse and help victims to heal and move on from their trauma.
In a 1,000-1,500-word original essay, please share with us why preventing and finding justice for sexual abuse is specifically important to you. You can address the following questions in your essay:
- What do you think can be done to reduce or eliminate the risks of enduring sexual abuse?
- What can institutions that, in many instances, employ perpetrators do better?
- What can society do as a whole to eliminate these horrible crimes?
These questions are meant as guiding prompts, but please feel free to go beyond these points in your essay. We are looking forward to reading your insights on this topic.
